Security

Please wear your badge at all times whilst attending a Dev8D event.

Be aware that you are responsible for your own equipment. Never leave your personal belongings unattended. Please be aware of strangers coming in without a badge.

Emergencies

In the case of any emergency (e.g. injury, crime etc), please speak to an event organiser if you can.

If the matter is serious, you may need to call the emergency services on 999.

Public Transport

The cheapest way to get around London on public transport is by using an Oyster Card. If you don't have one, you can get a Visitor Oyster Card (2-4 days delivery) delivered before you arrive or buy an Oyster Card when you arrive. Oyster Cards never expire, so they can be used on future trips to London. An Oyster Card has a lower single fare cost than cash, will always find the lowest possible fare combination for your day's travel, and will usually pay for itself within a couple of days.

Alternatively, the following Travelcards are available, which may be more suited to delegates attending a single day:

Travelcard Off-Peak Anytime
Day Travelcard (Zones 1-2) £5.60 £7.20
7 Day Travelcard (Zones 1-2) £25.80

It is generally cheaper to buy a Travelcard than to pay for single journeys unless you intend on only making one journey in a day, since a single cash fare for a Zones 1-2 single ticket is £4. If you have an Oyster Card, this fare will be substantially cheaper and your daily travel cost will automatically be capped at the cost of a Travelcard.

London Underground

The nearest stations to University of London Union are Goodge Street (Northern Line), Warren Street (Northern and Victoria Lines), Euston Square (Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan Lines) and Russell Square (Piccadilly Line).

The nearest stations to Palmers Lodge hostel are Swiss Cottage (Jubilee Line) and Finchley Road (Jubilee and Metropolitan Lines). Please note that Swiss Cottage station will have reduced escalator service for the duration of Dev8D.

Be aware that on Saturday 27th there are a significant number of planned works taking place on the Underground network, notably affecting Circle, Metropolitan and Victoria Lines and Warren Street station. You may wish to check your journeys before you begin.

Lost Items

If you lose any personal item(s), please let the event organisers know and we will report it to lost property at the venue.

Twitter at the event

The twitter tag for the event is #dev8d and extensions after this tag, e.g. #dev8d #lab represents twitters about the ‘Coding Lab’, for example. These tags will be clearly marked in each of the rooms and are also signposted on the wiki. We will make announcements via twitter, so it may be useful to set up an account for yourself.
