Coding Dojos

The coding lab will be in the style of a 'Coding Dojo'.

Introduction

Yahoo Pipes offers a way of indulging in programming without having to write any code...

In this session, we'll do a quick start exercise to get up and running with programming using pipes, and then start to look at other areas where we can develop without code.

Examples will include:

- using Google spreadsheets as programming canvas and YQL as a screenscraping tool;

- using online visualisation tools to display data published in a syndicated form (CSV and KML wrangling ;-)

- data protocols that plug in directly to javascript visualisation libraries (e.g. the Google Visulisation API)

If I get credentials for scraperwiki in time, we might also get a peak at that:-)

The session will also explore ways in which painless programming techniques can be used to access the UK's data.gov.uk Linked Data Stores, and how sharing pipelinked data might lessen the need to learn SPARQL and RDF...
